In its 52nd regular meeting, the Government of Kosovo approved the Mid-Term Strategy on the Work of the Ministry of Local Government Administration, approved the decision to establish a Commission to Manage the Fund for Supporting Minority and Multiethnic Media and other Special Groups and was also briefed on the work plan for 2009 of the National Scientific Council.
In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, said that the presentation of the Annual Report on the Work of the Government at the Assembly of Kosovo was a realistic picture and an accomplishment of the constitutional responsibilities of the Government of Kosovo towards the Assembly of Kosovo. He thanked the members of the Government Cabinet for their clarifications and for supporting the report at the Assembly. The Prime Minister expressed the commitment of the Government of Kosovo to continue with implementation of the objectives and pointed out the work on drafting the feasibility study in Kosovo’s path towards integration into the European Union.
The Government approved a Mid-Term Strategy on the Work of the Ministry of Local Government Administration which identifies the objectives for the reforming of the local government and decentralization, fiscal decentralization, capacity building and modernizing of municipal administration services, increasing of the citizens’ participation in the decision-making process and improving of the quality of the services of the municipal administration for the people of Kosovo.
In today’s meeting, the Government recommended to the Kosovo Procurement Agency and the Regulatory Committee for Public Procurement to consider a decision for excluding from procurement procedures, embassies and other diplomatic missions in Kosovo with regards to supply with goods and services. The goal of this decision is to create normal preconditions for the functionalizing of the work of the embassies and diplomatic missions in Kosovo until an adequate legal solution for this issue is found.
Based on the Regulation on the Fund for Supporting Minority and Multiethnic Media and other Special Groups, which had been adopted earlier, the Government decided to establish a Committee to manage this fund. The decision outlines the structures and the institutions that will nominate their members in this committee.
Also, in today’s meeting, the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Enver Hoxhaj, made a presentation on the Work Plan 2009 of the National Scientific Council, which has been established in accordance with the Law on Scientific Research Activities in Kosovo.
