The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, received in a meeting today the Foreign Minister of Greece, Dora Bakoyannis, the current rotating Chairperson of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, OSCE. Current developments in Kosovo, the OSCE mission in Kosovo and the forms of cooperation between Kosovo and Greece were amongst the topics discussed.
Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi highly assessed the work of the OSCE thus far.
“We are all grateful to the role that the OSCE has played in Kosovo, the good work they have done and also for helping us organize free and democratic elections in Kosovo, which served as a model for the region,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
Briefing Minister Bakoyannis on the progress made in Kosovo and on the steps taken so far with regards to the integration of all the communities, Prime Minister Thaçi said that “Kosovo is taking important steps forward in building a democratic and multi-ethnic Kosovo and will continue its efforts to become, in a near future, part of the International Monetary Fund and of the World Bank.”
Kosovo and Greece are developing good neighborly relations and will continue to advance these relations further in all areas of mutual interest. “We are two countries, geographically close to one another, but we are also two friendly countries and people, with a firm and joint perspective as part of NATO and the European Union,” said Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi.
The Greek Foreign Minister and the current rotating OSCE Chairperson, Dora Bakoyannis, acknowledged the progress made in Kosovo and expressed the commitment to support Kosovo in its path towards building a multi-ethnic and democratic society.
Talking in the capacity as Greek Foreign Minister, Mrs. Bakoyannis reiterated the engagement of the Greek state in building good relations with all its neighbors to facilitate the communication amongst the people.
Minister Bakoyannis expressed the Greek position that the recognition of Kosovo by Greece will only be based on the interests of the Greek state and in the interests of security in the region.
