Prime Minister Kurti hosted the representatives of the Kosovo Disability Forum

The goal of the Government of Kosovo is to offer equal opportunities to everyone, as a prerequisite for human dignity and equal participation in society, said Prime Minister Kurti, in the meeting with representatives of the Kosovo Disability Forum, an umbrella organization of organizations of persons with disabilities.
The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, reconfirmed the Government’s commitment to the protection and implementation of human rights in general, and in particular the respect of the rights of persons with disabilities.

The representatives of the organizations expressed their gratitude for the cooperation with the institutions and the commitment of Prime Minister Kurti for improving the well-being of people with disabilities.

Discussing the actions undertaken by the Government during 2022 as the Year of Persons with Disabilities, Measure 1.6 was singled out. – Support for the employment of people with special needs, the creation of Vocal Synthesis in the Albanian language, access to Braille documents within the Prime Minister’s Office for blind people, support given to training programs for athletes for the Kosovo Paralympic Committee and the Federation of Sports for the Blind.

For the improvement of education for children, the employment of about 100 assistants in schools throughout the country for children with special needs during this year, as well as the allocation of the budget by the Government for 2023 for 500 children with special needs, was singled out.

The commitment to appropriate legal infrastructure was emphasized, highlighting the initiation of the process of amending the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo for the inclusion of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the work on the drafting of the Draft Law on the Assessment, Recognition of Status, Benefits and Services for Persons with Disabilities, as well as the Administrative Instruction approved by the Government for the designation of the List, Types and Assistive Devices provided free of charge for Paraplegic and Tetraplegic Persons, serving for Movement, Prevention and Assistance.

The continuation of cooperation between the Government and organizations, to increase the well-being of people with disabilities, was reiterated in this joint meeting with the Chairman of the Kosovo Disability Forum, Bujar Kadriu, and the Executive Director of the Kosovo Association of the Deaf, Enver Kurtalani and The Executive Director of Down Syndrome Kosovo, Sebahate Hajdini Beqiri.
