The fourth meeting of the Joint Steering Committee for the UN Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development is held

Today, the fourth meeting of the Joint Steering Committee between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the United Nations Team for Kosovo (UNKT) took place. The meeting was held after the formalization of the establishment of the Joint Accelerating Fund of the Sustainable Development Goals for Kosovo.

The way forward and planning in the implementation of the objectives for sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda, as well as the strengthening of cooperation between the Government and United Nations agencies, were the focus of the discussion within the Framework of Cooperation for Sustainable Development of the UN.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti emphasized that the Government remains committed to advancing towards the implementation of sustainable development objectives and Agenda 2030, in areas that include health, education, digitalization, agriculture, justice and security.

He praised the creation of the Joint Accelerating Fund of the Sustainable Development Goals for Kosovo, as an important agreement that shows the enhanced cooperation between the Government of Kosovo, donors and the UN.

Furthermore, he thanked the relevant UN agencies, which assisted and helped in the successful completion of the population census on the ground, making this process adhere to international standards.

“As we entered the second year of the implementation of the National Development Strategy and the fourth year of the Government Program, which defines the general national agenda of reforms and investments, we are grateful for the efforts of government institutions, UN agencies, and other development partners in aligning these priorities and supporting their implementation.” said Prime Minister Kurti.

Prime Minister Kurti was accompanied in this meeting by line ministers and institutional leaders, while from the United Nations agencies present were the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Kosovo, Arnhild Spence, the head of UNDP in Kosovo Nuno Queiros and the new head of UNICEF in Kosovo, Veronika Vashchenko, and other representatives of the United Nations in Kosovo.
